BGS for the entrance to the MS 25 Bypass around Starkville. This sign is on US 82, on the western edge of town. |

At the junction of MS Highways 25 and 12 near Wal-Mart in Starkville. This was taken heading north, but the same sign appears heading the other way. |

My alma mater. Precedes the MS 12 exit, heading north. Strangely, the university's BGS that is in place for the southbound lanes abbreviates the state name to 'Miss.' instead of spelling it out, as it is here. |

I've never heard anyone say the phrase "West Starkville," but I guess it is a fitting designation. On the 25 bypass, northbound. Until the northern leg of the bypass was completed around 2005, this was its mandatory last northbound exit. |

BGS on US 82, westbound, coming into the city. There used to be a MS 25 shield in the upper right, and Louisville was listed as a control city underneath Ackerman. The state simply covered up these features with blank sheeting in preparation for the opening of the 25 Bypass, and added a 25 North shield above the panel itself. The Road Work sign refers to the renovation of the interchange with MS 12, just west of this point. |

This is a new BGS placed at the onramp to the 82/12 multiplex eastbound from Veterans Memorial Drive (MS 12). It replaces a similar sign that was removed when the road was widened in Summer 2003. |

US 45 shield at Miss. State University. This is located at the intersection of Stone Blvd. and Blackjack Rd. on the south side of campus. Apparently this intends to guide visitors to Oktoc Rd., then to Artesia Rd., which meets 45 Alternate in southwestern Lowndes County. It seems to be rather confusing to me. The last time I was on Artesia Rd. there was no mention of US 45. This shield also lacks a 'To' designation which probably makes new visitors think they're closer to 45 than they thought. |

MS 182, which was once US 82 from Starkville to Columbus, is also signed as "Alternate TO East 82" just before 82 exits town. |

MS 12/25 shields on Collegeview St. just west of the MSU Campus. These are now obsolete as MS 25 no longer follows 12 through this area. The last time I was in this part of town, in 2006, the shields were still up. |

Nice, big shields were put up on the new bypass once it was fully complete. They look a lot better than the old ones. |

Last year Starkville installed a traffic circle at the intersection of Blackjack and Oktoc Roads. Prior to the current alignment, it was a nasty junction that undoubtedly caused problems. Now it's considerably better. These two signs have been posted to warn oncoming drivers of the intersection. The first sign would be quite confusing to a newcomer (particularly one who is trying to reach US 45). Crop circles, anyone? |

BGS for US 82 West on US 45 Alternate. The tacked-on MS 25 shield is common in the area, because the state realized after many years that there was no explanation as to how MS 25 got from Starkville to Aberdeen. |

BGS on US 45 Alt at the Okolona/Amory exit. This sign is typical of the BGSes the state has put up in recent years. The newest signs, like those on MS 25 around Starkville, are true FHWA interstate-grade panels, complete with Series E Modified lettering. |

![[icons/icon_arrow.png]](icons/icon_arrow.png) |
Not too long ago, MDOT finally started signing US 278 along the existing route of MS 6, even though the route had been commissioned for a number of years. Here, they simply tacked the new shields above the existing BGS for Main Street in Tupelo (which has always been MS 6). This is also the northern terminus of the 45/278 multiplex. |
