I have always had a fascination with random numbers. As early as age two, I was interested in license plates. I started collecting in earnest in 1988, as Tennessee phased out the 1984 base. By 1999 I had collected some 500 plates from every U.S. state. Despite my enjoyment of the hobby, and despite the fact I had discovered there was a national organization for plate collectors several years earlier, it was not until 2001 that I joined ALPCA. In 2007, I joined the Mid-America Plate Association, mostly comprised of members in and around Chicago.
Most of the plates in my collection aren't museum pieces; I don't have the money to obtain exquisite specimens. However, I've managed to amass over 1,000 plates, mostly from the U.S., but also some from around the world.
